Shopping Trips – A Few Unsung Variables

Shopper behavior has seen accelerated change in the past few years. Let’s take one specific parameter — the number of shopping trips and by extension the basket size per trip, as very broadly speaking, the two are inversely proportional.
In a number of geographies, there is a clear shift from a small number of large one-stop shopping trips to more frequent smaller trips, possibly leaning towards specialty stores, discounters and convenience stores that stock fewer items but are more easily accessed. Technology and the ease of online shopping is probably the most discussed driver of this change.
