Reject Shop names Ross Sudano as new chief replacing Chris Bryce

Discount variety retailer The Reject Shop has appointed a former beer and grocery industry executive, Ross Sudano, as chief executive, filling the void left by the departure of Chris Bryce last month.

Mr Sudano, 43, has had a 20-year career in retailing with a range of companies including Anaconda Adventure Stores, Foodland Associated, Coles and BP. His most recent role was chief executive of craft brewer Little World Beverages, which was acquired by Lion two years ago.

He is expected to take up his role on September 11, 2014.

Mr Sudano joins The Reject Shop at a difficult time. The discount variety sector has been hardest hit by the downturn in discretionary spending after the May budget and is grappling with structural challenges including a raft of new online and bricks and mortar competitors.

Last week, The Reject Shop’s largest competitor, Jan Cameron’s Discount Superstores group, which owns Crazy Clarks and Sams Warehouse, collapsed for the second time in less than two years. Sydney Morning Herald – Read more…
