Consumer spending habits rewrite the new normal in 2021
Some interesting numbers being quoted for the USA: “there was a 3% reduction in the total retail universe in the U.S. from 2019 to 2020, with grocery stores (-4%) and convenience stores (-2%) the harder hit from the realm of consumer goods retail”.
Based on discussions within the AUS and NZ markets I suspect that the numbers here are lower for the same channels.
The same can’t be said for Food Service and smaller specialised retailers.
Hopefully enough of them can survive long enough till we get past these lockdowns, as they are a valuable contribution to local communities and the retail landscape as a whole.
