Amazon is unlikely to build its own grocery stores in the wake of its surprise $US13.4 billion ($18 billion) takeover offer for upmarket US grocery chain Whole Foods Market, experts say.
Amazon’s proposed takeover is also unlikely to alter its Australian expansion plans, the experts say, although the offer does demonstrate that the future of retail is bricks and mortar plus online.
Amazon’s proposed purchase of Whole Foods is its biggest ever, demonstrating it’s serious about grocery. If successful, it will give the world’s biggest online marketplace 460 stores in the US and increase its market share in grocery sales from just 0.6 per cent. Sydney Morning Herald – Read more…
