3 essential pieces of the supermarket business model

A short while ago, I posted “10 strategies for SME’s to beat the supermarket gorillas at their own game”n which generated quite a bit of comment and feedback. Amongst the nfeedback were a number of requests to go into more detail on each of then strategies, and so this is the first of the series, focussed on nunderstanding the business model of the supermarkets.n

I deliberately used the word “Gorillas” because of the nextraordinarily concentrated nature of Australia’s supermarket nretailers, with Coles and Woolworths between them holding over 70{845d44a2f09c0018d802e19e78941a85dc2180e4ed7410cee0b34e8cb134ecea} of nFMCG sales depending on the category, and whose numbers you believe.
