How big can Aldi get in Australia? And how much secrecy is too much?
After opening its first store in 2001, the German discounter has yet to overtake Woolworths, Coles and Metcash as a top-three grocery retailer, but a combination of cost-conscious shoppers, savvy marketing to families, and a national yen for competition to Woolies and Coles has made shopping at Aldi mainstream at last.
 More than half of Australian households visited an Aldi store in the year to October, up from just 7 per cent in 2001, according to figures released last month by researchers Nielsen.
