Costco trolley collectors exploited – labour-hire companies Xidis and Jay Group fined

Contractors of international wholesaler Costco have been fined $190,000 for paying overseas employees nothing for 11 days of pushing trolleys at a western Sydney shopping centre. 
Costco, which recently posted annual international sales of $US110.2 billion, owns the Lidcombe shopping centre that contracted a labour-hire company owned by businessman Nick Iksidis to provide the trolley-collection service.
Mr Iksidis was personally fined $39,600 for his role in the exploitation of 12 workers who were collectively underpaid $27,284.26.
The Fair Work Omudsman took legal action on behalf of the workers aged between 19 and 32 who were on working holiday visas and spoke little English.  Sydney Morning Herald – Read more…
