Myer edging out of electronics
One of Myer’s most senior executives, Tony Sutton, says the department store chain is likely to keep shrinking the size of its electronics departments and devote more floor space to other categories because electronics sales continue to be soft.
Mr Sutton, Myer’s executive general manager of stores and a potential successor to chief executive Bernie Brookes, said cosmetics and ladies accessories were departments that are continuing to show solid growth right across the group’s national network of stores.
But the trend of slowing electronics sales had not abated in a fiercely competitive market.
"Electronics, with all the price deflation, continues to be a bit softer," Mr Sutton said.
