Wesfarmers’ secret Amazon response team
A few years ago, and well before the headlines heralding Amazon’s imminent arrival to Australian shores hit, executives from Australia’s biggest owner of retail businesses, Wesfarmers, assembled the Amazon response team – which comprised of strategists from all of the West Australian conglomerate’s big retail brands, Coles, Bunnings, Kmart, Officeworks and Target.
The purpose; to be battle-ready for the onslaught of the mother of all retail disrupters.
Wesfarmers amped up its strategic battle plans a year ago – bringing in a team from head office to weigh in further – to "test each division to ensure they have a robust [defence] strategy".
