Bayer urges caution on contraceptive pill concerns

Pharmaceutical giant, Bayer is urging pharmacists and other health care professionals to discuss contraceptive options with women following reports of a potential class action relating to its Yaz and Yasmin products.

The ABC reported that more than 600 Australian women have expressed their interest in joining a class action against Bayer, claiming to have suffered serious side effects from the pills, mostly to do with complications from blood clots

Responding to the potential legal actions, a spokesperson for the company told Contact it was “concerned that ongoing media exposure on this topic is causing concern among women, who may then make decisions about their medication before having the opportunity to discuss their options with their doctor”.
