COAG brings pharmacist prescribing a step closer
Pharmacists may soon be able to prescribe medications after the Council of Australian Governments’ Standing Council on Health approved the draft Health Professionals Prescribing Pathway.
The pathway sets out the steps required for a non-medical health professional to achieve safe and competent prescribing of medicines within their scope of practice.
The decision to back the document, which was released by Health Workforce Australia in January, follows the Pharmacy Board of Australia’s deadline for AHPRA to deliver guidelines for pharmacist prescribing, as part of its Health Profession Agreement, as reported by Pharmacy News.
