Australian stores are a Costco success story as customers sign on in bulk

Australian shoppers are the biggest fans of discount retailer Costco outside its native US market, filling their oversized shopping baskets with everything from bulk purchases of toilet paper to plasma TVs at the fastest rate the warehouse store has experienced.
A Costco executive revealed this outcome amid a push to break in to Australia’s $15 billion-plus discount petrol business. The second Costco outlet in Sydney, which will open later this year, will sell heavily discounted fuel, posing a further threat to leading supermarket chains Woolworths and Coles, which operate their own networks of petrol stations.  Sydney Morning Herald – Read more…
