Sales boom for private label

​Private label speculated to account for more than 30 per cent of supermarket sales by 2017-18.

The private label segment has grown by more than 85 per ncent in the past five years and is expected to continue growing, naccording to a report released by IBISWorld this week.

The report forecasts Australians will spend $8.5 billionn in 2012-13, with $21.6 billion of this spent on private label. Spendingn on private label is expected to reach $31.8 billion by 2017-18.

Growth in the segment is being driven by products with an high degree of homogeneity, including private label butter (which naccounts for 68 per cent of total butter sales), sugar (67 per cent), nbread (56 per cent), and fresh milk (55 per cent). Retail World – Read More.
