Coles and Woolworths bullying us, say suppliers
CONSUMERS are seeing some of Australia’s best-known brands vanish from the supermarket shelves amid industry forecasts that food manufacturing in Australia will be nearly halved within a decade.

Food suppliers say their demise is being hastened by bully-boy tactics from Coles and Woolworths, which together account for about 80 cents of every dollar spent on groceries.

A tactic known as ”cliffing” means consumers have seen choices they have known for decades, including Greenseas tuna and McCormick spices, disappearing from Coles’ shelves.

And Woolworths has confirmed it has recently removed much of the Australian-owned Black Swan dips range.

The Australian Food and Grocery Council has warned the push for more "private label" in-house brands will result in other well-known brands being pushed off the shelves in favour of cut-price imports. Sydney Morning Herald – Read more…
