Brands shelved in supermarket label squeeze
Brands that Australians know andtrust are being shelved as moresupermarket aisle space is beingdevoted to private label brandsimpacting on Australian manufacturerscapacity to get their products toconsumers and grow their businesses,according to new figures releasedby the Australian Food and GroceryCouncil (AFGC) on March 11.
The aggressive private label growth byWoolworths and Coles is occurring acrossmany categories, with leading brands worstaffected by the supermarket shelf squeeze.
AFGC Chief Executive Kate Carnell said:"This alarming growth in private label – ashigh as more than 10 per cent of shelfspace in breakfast cereal – is -making itmore difficult for Australian food and grocerymanufacturers to compete on supermarketshelves in a fair and equitable way".
